SONY audio system

The Sony Group is primarily focused on the Electronics (such as AV/IT products & components), Games (such as PlayStation), Entertainment (such as motion pictures and music), and Financial Services (such as insurance and banking) sectors. Help answer the question about Sony STR-DG520

Which receiver, Sony STR-Dg520 or Onkyo TX-SR304? (see links)?
I really like this sony receiver http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665360001 but recently I have been finding receivers that are a bit cheaper like this Onkyo one http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR304S-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B000FJKJHU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1231631653&sr=1-9
The Sony one on amazon is 10 dollars more than the Onkyo one. The Onkyo one supposedly has slightly better audio quality, but it doesn’t have as much power as the sony. Also, the Onkyo is lacking on inputs, with no HDMI and only one optical. How much better is the audio of the Onkyo receiver, and is it worth less inputs and connectivity?
let me know you have a better receiver in the same price range

Most of the times you don't NEED to clean the lens, unless you smoke….

Those lenses are pretty fragile, so I only suggest cleaning them WHEN they give you problems…..

Because cleaning them when you are NOT experiencing problems may result in damage due to the fragility of it……

Like they say…..If if ain't broke, don't fix it.

So…clean your lens once a year if you want to, but it was designed by the engineers to never need cleaning….

Unless of course, you smoke 5 packs a day….or 3 cigars a day….

THEN you would want to clean every 6 months……

i wouldn't bother buying one. you can get the same volume out of 50w rms if its a good quality system. dont worry about the number. go and spend a bit of time selecting the amp you like the sound of. and do the same with the speakers. better quality…. lasts longer…. looks nicer.
wouldn't you rather have a sound that you like not a sound that a team of people you've never met likes?

in responce to richard: all thoes speakers are just good low end speakers. i agree bose are not as good as they make out. but they are a damn sight better than what you have suggested. for arroung the same price as the upper end of thoes makes you could havea pair of KEF, or monitor audio.
unfortunately in this case i would advise bose over the makes you suggested anyday. just because they look nice dose not mean they sound as good.

bbt: no the max power is the guide not RMS, RMS is an accurate guide. its the effency of the amp that makes the difference. looks should play no part. only sound. the more you pay the more you get out of your watts. i have a 2500w rms amp that dosent even compare to my 30w RMS monitor audio, the 2500w cos £300 the 30W cost £2400.

man if you got the money there isnt such a thing as too much. i mean obviously over 15000 watts is a lil intense but some people want it. if you have no limit on money go really big. i can tell you right now that sony anything sucks. if you think that is hitting really hard then you've never heard a real loud system. go out and buy some solo x 12's and fully power them with 5000 watts rms and then tell me bout your sony xplodes. but if you dont want to be upgrading the alternator and the battery and stuff like that and just want to stick with just buying subs and an amp…stay under 900 watts rms just to be safe. its said if you go over your gonna need to be upgrading wires and electrical stuff so it all depends on your pocket book

Sonys are generally very clean looking, but not always the best speakers. Kenwood makes descent speakers in their middle-class and they are pretty good for the price, but their decks aren't very well thought out, and setting common setting such as the HPF is a little difficult. I would say pioneer is the way to go with decks, they seem to be the easiest to use and the quickest for setting common audio settings. Their speakers however, arn't always the cleanest, and usually have sensitivites that arn't quite matched up with the price brackets. (Low dB Cheap Speakers, High dB Pricey Speakers). If you are wanting to do a system using only one brand, I'd say go with Pionner Premier, or Alpine (S, R or X)

Do you have performance cables? If so I think you are noticing a common problem known as breaking in. Cables especially performance one require a brake in of a few days before they sound OK. In my own experience I have found it necessary to hook a system up turn it on for a few day to run in and then come back to alter DSP/EQ settings, etc.. I have also found settings will vary just letting a system sit idle to long.

You also say you moved, have you calibrated to the new environment? Also how was the equipment/speakers/cables stored this will have an effect in performance as well. You could also have a power issue, are you using a power conditioner?

Let me know details on how you stored the equipment as well as the details about the new environment, as well details on the equipment itself. This will help to make a proper diagnosis.

KEY issue is space. Tend to the square feet. The sony is
good, pioneer, hitachi though they are best with buffers,
tweeters, that's why I suggest kits. The exact square foot is
usually set at 140.00 dollars less expensive when you put it
in with space specs. Here is a good feature aim for 20 watts.

It's hard to say. I have Kenwood in my car and it sounds and works fantastic. I would say Kenwood only because they have a lot more experience in car speakers, where Sony is mainly focused around surround sound, tv, and other speakers like that. Kenwood can also hook you up with some pretty cheap prices which are always nice.
